According to the most common story, the ship was carrying contraband and its crew was caught in a terrible storm while trying to escape a pursuing navy. The ship has remained untouched since it ran aground, but in 2022 a landslide occurred in the bay, caused by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake between Kefalonia and Zakynthos. At that time, tourists were prohibited from entering the beach, so the wreck could only be viewed up close by being close to the water. But in recent days, a post has appeared on Instagram showing how the ship's condition has deteriorated over the past decade due to weather factors.

Residents and tourism operators called on the authorities to try to protect the wreck, given its tourism importance, but there were also those who offered to fund the preservation of the tourist attraction with their own money.
