Between the end of November last year and the beginning of January 2024, 66% of ski-related travel insurance went to Austria, while Slovakia's share was 14% and Poland 7%, according to Netrisk's latest compilation.
According to the insurance portal In this period, 2 and 3 percent of ski tourists chose Slovenia and Italy, respectively.
Netrisk added that the average insurance fee exceeds 10,000 Hungarian forints.
Not just skiers like Austria
Netrisk's research also revealed where those who did not choose a ski resort as their destination traveled. Austria also leads this comparison with 20%.
It is followed by Romania with 13 percent, and then Italy, Poland, Spain and Germany in third place with almost 10 percent each.
However, these travelers spent longer abroad than the skiers, nearly 8 days on average.
It is worth getting insurance
Marton Bisneau, managing director of Netrisk, said it was worth taking out insurance for any trip abroad, but this was especially true when it came to skiing.

Mountain or even helicopter rescue and immediate medical care is very expensive, and can cost several million forints.
Compared to this, the cost of travel insurance is negligible – the company director pointed out.
“There are differences between travel insurances in terms of fees and related services, so it is worth choosing carefully. If someone is traveling abroad by car – either to ski or just to visit the city – it is worth taking out travel insurance with an assistance service,” he noted. Marton Bisnew.
