US President Joe Biden won by a landslide in the Democratic primary elections in South Carolina. By obtaining 96.5% of the votes, Biden defeated Minnesota representative Dean Phillips and author Marianne Williamson.

In the election campaign 4 years ago, Biden owed his presidential candidacy to his victory in South Carolina. In this year's presidential election, there is a good chance that Donald Trump will become Biden's Republican challenger again. The US presidential elections are scheduled to take place on November 5.

South Carolina has opened its doors to the Democratic primary for the first time after the party's governing body overhauled its voting calendar. Biden proposed South Carolina as the first location, a message sent to African-American voters in the southern federal state, whom he is trying to support in the November elections.

The Republican Party will hold the primary elections in South Carolina on February 24, with current opinion polls showing Donald Trump's confident lead over his only rival within the party, Nikki Haley.

Next week, the primary elections for both Democrats and Republicans will be held in the state of Nevada, and expectations indicate that Biden and Trump will win.

The names of official presidential candidates are finalized by state delegates, based on the results of the primaries. The Republicans hold their national convention in mid-July, while the Democrats hold their national convention in mid-August.
