At Skate Canada, we are driven by a vision where everyone in Canada can experience the joy of skating.
In 2022, we proudly launched Community Constellations, a program designed to make skiing accessible to marginalized communities in Canada. Community Constellations removes financial barriers to give equity groups the opportunity to attend live figure skating events and experience the magic of the sport first-hand.
To date, we have partnered with organizations such as KidsUpFront, Temple Community Association, New Canada Friendship Centre, Aboriginal Physical Activity and Sports Recreation Council, and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation to help distribute more than 700 tickets to figure skating events to underserved individuals and families. , including newcomers, refugees and indigenous Canadians.
“I want to thank you on behalf of the entire family for the wonderful distinction you have given us by selecting us for a beautiful and fun competition at Calgary Olympic Park,” said a Community Constellations recipient and newcomer to Canada. “We feel honored to be considered for so many beautiful presentations.”
Thanks to meaningful dialogue with our community partners, since the program's launch, Community Constellations has evolved to better meet the needs of the people it serves. In addition to the event ticket, participants receive transportation to and from the venue, on-site food vouchers, and additional tickets for their family members to attend.
The Vanier Social Pediatrics Club said: “It was heartwarming to see parents and children participating in the activity that they would not otherwise have had the means to attend.” “Thank you for this initiative.”
Through Community Constellations and in partnership with local organizations across the country, we are not only fostering a more diverse group of snowboarding fans but we are also helping to make the joy of skiing accessible to all Canadians.
