Canada defeats Britain in the Women's World Water Polo Championship

Team Canada is off to a strong start at the 2024 Women's Water Polo Championships in Doha, Qatar. On Tuesday, Canada beat Great Britain 20-5.

In the 15-goal Canadian victory, Montreal Quebec's Elise Lemay-Lavoie led the Canadians in scoring with four goals. She now has nine goals in two games, scoring five in Canada's 24-2 win over South Africa on Sunday. Shay Laroche of Calgary, Alberta was the only other Canadian player to score a hat-trick as she scored three times. Those Canadian players with two goals in two games are Emma Wright of Lindsay, Ontario, Axel Crevier and Marilia Mimedes of Montreal, Kindred Ball of Spruce Grove, Alberta, and Blair McDowell of Regina, Saskatchewan. Those Canadian players who scored one goal were Verica Bacock of Toronto, Ontario, Daphne Guivermont of Laval, Quebec, and Serena Brown of Montreal.

With this win, Canada improved to a record of two wins and zero losses. They are one of six unbeaten teams so far. They are joined by Italy, Hungary, Australia, Spain and the United States. Canada will play Italy next Thursday. The two best teams in the tournament who have not yet qualified for the next Olympic Games book their ticket to Paris.
