Researching ancient burial sites is an exciting and powerful way to look into the past. However, it often raises more questions than it answers. For example, in a newly discovered Swedish burial chamber, all the skulls are mysteriously missing. Researchers found this burial chamber in Tiarbe near Falköping, also called a dolment. They were able to identify body parts from the remains of at least 12 people, but there are gaps. Experts still cannot explain why the missing skulls were there and where they may have gone. One possible explanation is theft or ritual. However, no signs were found on the remains indicating that they had been subjected to any kind of assault in their lives.

The tomb was probably built about 3,500 years ago, during the early Neolithic period. Skulls and larger bones, which may have been removed from the grave, are missing. Scientists do not yet know for sure whether these deficiencies are related to burial rituals or something else. Of course, decay over the past thousands of years has brought about a lot of changes, but this does not explain why small bones remain intact, while skulls and some other larger bones are missing. This is an unusual case for archaeologists, although similar cases have been reported before. For example, an ancient site in Slovakia also lacked skulls.

In addition to human remains, the research team also found bones of rodents, frogs, pigs, sheep and goats. It is unlikely that they all date from the same period. The Valköping area is known for its ephemeral cemeteries, but this burial chamber is different from the others. It is approximately 150-200 years old and has many distinctive construction features. The team is currently working to learn more about the discovered skeletons, which likely belong to a farming community.
