Android 15 DP1 is here

Android 15 DP1 is here

Despite a slight delay compared to the original plan, the first developer preview build of Android 15 has been released, which can already be downloaded on supported Pixel phones.

Android 15 DP1 (Developer Preview 1) has arrived, an initial version of the system intended for developers. It's still far from the final release, but the bottom line is that live testing has begun, and Google has released a roadmap:

The second developer preview will arrive in March, then the beta program will begin in April. There will be at least four beta releases, about one per month, and these releases will get us closer to the final system. In June, Android 15 will reach platform stability, meaning core functionality will not change from then on. We don't know yet when the final version will arrive, but Android 14 was released at the beginning of October last year, before that Android 13 was released in mid-August, and even the older Android 12 was also released in October.

So far, few tangible innovations based on DP1 have been revealed, but there are some interesting things that Android 15 could bring:

  • Partial screen sharing, when the device's entire screen is not displayed, but a specific application can be viewed on an external display
  • Partial screen capture (similar to previous)
  • Option to hide unwanted notifications and apps while recording screen
  • New power saving mode for apps running in the background for a long time
  • CPU and GPU management has been further developed to ensure adequate performance during applications and games, while reducing heating and consumption
  • Multiple camera settings in third-party applications
  • Improve data protection
  • etc.

Most of the innovations will be revealed in the beta versions, and that's not all.
