Egyptian authorities have dubbed the Menkaure Pyramid renovation project the Project of the Century, as they wanted to cover it with a layer of granite to restore the original appearance of the structure, according to reports. Watchman.
The works actually started at the end of January, and according to plans, they were supposed to work on it for three years. Egyptologist Monica Hanna described this measure as ridiculous, adding that it violates international principles.
People were very concerned about the Pyramid of Menkaure, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Due to the global outcry, contractors decided to suspend renovation work on the Great Pyramid of Giza.
The work could not continue because, according to the review committee, determining the original location of the fallen granite blocks was an almost impossible task.
Another argument was that the granite covering used in the renovation could have been cemented in, potentially causing damage to the pyramid, which was built in 2503 BC.
They also shared a video about the renovation process, which also caused huge public outrage on social media. According to critics, with this force “the Leaning Tower of Pisa could be straightened.” In addition, there were those who, ironically, suggested using only wallpaper instead of covering the granite.
