For the first time, scientists have been able to fully image the marine reptile Dinocephalosaurus orientalis, which lived 240 million years ago, the researchers wrote. Sky News.
Researchers first identified this species in 2003, when its fossils were discovered in Guizhou Province, southern China. However, the remains of new specimens were recently found, giving experts a complete picture of the creature.
For the first time, we can see this magnificent long-necked animal in its entirety
– said one of the research group members Nick Fraser, who works at the National Museums of Scotland.
Tests revealed that the dinosaur that lived in the Triassic period had 32 separate cervical vertebrae and limbs suitable for jumping. The researchers also found fish remains in the animal's stomach, so it was also revealed that the creature was a predator well adapted to life in the ocean.
Based on tests, the researchers determined that the animal could be compared to the dragon known in Chinese culture.
We are sure that our drawing of the animal, reminiscent of the legendary Chinese dragon with its long, snake-like neck, will capture the imagination of the whole world.
