From March 1, the system known as planes will take effect on Italian high-speed trains (Frecciarosa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca).
Passengers can carry up to two pieces of luggage for free, and the luggage must have specific dimensions depending on whether we are traveling in first or second class. In second class, as well as in standard and premium class, the total size of baggage (length, width plus depth) may not exceed 161 centimeters (within this, individual dimensions may not exceed eighty centimetres).
In first class, as well as in executive and business class, the total size of baggage cannot exceed 183 centimeters (its individual size can reach a maximum of one hundred and twenty centimeters).
In addition, each bag must be clearly and legibly labeled with the owner's name and contact information. On the train, luggage may only be placed in designated areas, and luggage will not be stored near the doors and in the aisles, so as not to impede the movement of other passengers and the work of the train crew.
New provisions also apply to “special” baggage, that is, those traveling with skis, strollers and musical instruments. It can be carried in addition to the two permitted pieces of baggage, but only if its total size does not exceed two hundred centimeters (length, width and depth). The same applies to bicycles (all types of bicycles, as long as they can be disassembled and/or folded) and electric scooters: they must be placed in a bag no larger than 80 x 110 x 45 cm.
Those who do not adhere to the new rules can expect a fine of fifty euros (about twenty thousand Hungarian forints) and must unload their luggage at the first station where the train stops. Italian Railway Company In addition, French company Sncf will also impose baggage restrictions on certain trains from March 1.
However, in Italy, you can not only travel by high-speed train, because there is also a more economical alternative, and there are also very special flights.
