Canada's men continue to struggle on the HSBC SVNS circuit, losing third straight in Los Angeles – Sports

Carson, California. – The Canadian men's tough run on the HSBC SVNS circuit continued on Saturday with losses to Fiji and Britain at HSBC SVNS Los Angeles.

The Canadians lost 24-7 to France on Friday, lost 40-0 to Fiji and 31-14 to Britain to finish last in Pool C at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Canadians, a rebuilding team under coach Shaun White, have lost 13 straight games since beating France 33-7 on Dec. 10 to finish seventh in Cape Town.

The Canadian women, who defeated Britain 20-10 on Friday, opened the day by defeating Spain 31-0 in tries by Carissa Norsten, Chrissy Scurfield, Brynn Nicholas, Chloe Daniels and Maddy Grant.

The women lost 22-19 to the United States later Saturday in a match for first place in Pool C. Scurfield, Asia Hogan Rochester and Sabrina Poulin scored tries for Canada, which rallied from a 12-0 first-half deficit.

The Canadian women will play France on Sunday in the Cup quarter-finals. Meanwhile, the men will face South Africa in the 11th place play-off.

Alex Russell and Kalin Sager scored tries for the Canadian men against Britain, leading 14-10 at the break. Sager scored on the stroke of half-time, holding off Ross McCann on his way to the try line.

Canadian player Josiah Mora stepped in in the fourth minute to block an attempt by Jamie Barden, who had his foot in contact upon video review.

Morgan Williams scored two tries for Britain while Alex Davies, Robbie Ferguson and Tom Emery added singles.

The Canadian men finished last in the Dubai, Perth and Vancouver tournaments and came to Los Angeles 12th and last in the season standings.

The Mini Sevens circuit includes seven regular season events, each featuring a men's and women's competition, plus a grand final with promotion and relegation odds.

After Los Angeles, the teams will travel to Hong Kong and Singapore before concluding their matches in Madrid from May 31 to June 2.
