Tropic Haze LLC agreed to a settlement that includes several conditions and $2.4 million in damages.
Yesterday we wrote about the bizarre attack on the Yuzu emulator by Nintendo, and while many envisioned years of litigation, it is now clear that nothing will be achieved, as the developer of the software in question, Tropic Haze LLC, has surrendered to a Japanese company.
Yuzu's creators have formally agreed to rule in Nintendo's favor, pay $2.4 million in damages and cease publicly offering Yuzu and the software's source code and functionality in all possible respects. Support for the emulator will be terminated, and the Citra 3DS emulator also fell victim to this issue.
In fact, the developers have acknowledged and accepted the position expressed by Nintendo, which the judge in the case has not yet agreed to, but it is likely that this is just a formality, after all parties are inclined to settle.
The software itself is likely to live longer, since the source code has been available for a long time, so this can happen in many places, meaning emulator development can be taken over by other stakeholders. However, factory-level support will definitely end, and perhaps that will be enough for Nintendo. In addition to the above, there is also the question of what will happen to the other Switch emulator called Ryujinx, which the Japanese company has not yet attacked, but this could change at any time.
