100 distinct organizations from across the country will be hosting Canadian Soccer Free Kick Events – Try it out to help welcome new participants to Canada and celebrate inclusion in organized soccer. The events will run from March to May with support from Canada Football's Grassroots Development Grants and the Canadian Government's Community Sport for All initiative through the Ministry of Sport and Physical Activity.
“Through the Canadian Soccer Free Kick Events – Try It, clubs from coast to coast across the country are encouraged to foster a safe, fun and welcoming environment for Canada’s new participants in the beautiful game,” said Charmaine Crooks, Canada Soccer Representative. president. “With more than $1.2 million invested in our sport through support from the Government of Canada, Canadian Football can help build on programs that support our youth, coaches, referees and emerging leaders so they can positively impact and grow within the sport they love.”
Through several initiatives, Canada Soccer will invest more than $1.2 million in programs to provide more Canadians with opportunities to experience the power of sport. Initiatives already include Free Kicks – Try It events, Canadian Soccer in Schools, and Canada Soccer's IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equality and Accessibility) learning program.
“This initiative not only promotes the sport within our community, but also provides a valuable platform for new Canadians to connect, integrate and feel valued in their new environment,” said Tyler Hilstead, Weyburn Football Association Technical Director. “Your commitment to promoting inclusion and accessibility in football is truly commendable and resonates deeply with the values of our Association.”
The 100 Canadian organizations will receive cumulative grants of $100,000 to help support Free Kick – Try It events ($1,000 grant per organization). The 100 events will be held across the country from March 1 to May 31, 2024 with a focus on welcoming more new participants to Canada and celebrating inclusion within each soccer organization. Canada Soccer provides leadership in the pursuit of excellence in soccer, both nationally and internationally, in collaboration with its members and stakeholders.
