Canadian Homan defeats Japanese Ueno in the World Women's Curling Championship |  National sports

SYDNEY, N.S. — Canada's Rachel Homan beat Japan's Mio Ueno 7-2 Wednesday morning to remain undefeated at the World Women's Curling Championship.

Homan and her team of Tracy Fleury, Emma Mischio and Sarah Wilkes scored three goals in the eighth end en route to their seventh straight round robin victory. The Ottawa-based quartet has won 23 straight matches overall.

Canada will then play Turkey's Delsat Yildiz in the evening draw at Center 200.

In other early matches, Italian Stefania Constantini defeated South Korean Eunji Jim 10-9, and Swedish Anna Hasselborg defeated American Tabitha Peterson 10-5.

Norwegian Marianne Rorvik scored five points in the seventh end to beat New Zealander Jessica Smith 11-4.

Constantini joined defending champion Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland in second place at 6-1. South Korea fell into a fourth-place tie with Danish Madeleine Dupont, 5-2.

Sweden alone ranked sixth with a score of 5-3. The top six teams at the end of the round matches on Friday will qualify for the playoffs at the weekend.

Norway was under the cut line at 3-4. The United States, Japan and Rebecca Morrison of Scotland were next at 2-5.

Canada's last women's world title came in 2018 when Jennifer Jones triumphed in North Bay, Ontario. Homan won gold in her last appearance at the World Championships in 2017 in Beijing.
