IDRE FJÄLL, Sweden — Brittany Phelan won gold in a World Cup ski station on Friday to highlight another successful day for Canadian athletes on the track.

Phelan, of Mont-Tremblant, Que., held off teammate India Sherritt in the final round to win her second gold medal of the season.

Sherritt, from Cranbrook, British Columbia, took silver ahead of Switzerland's Saskia Luck.

In the men's competition, Rhys Howden of Chilliwack, British Columbia, took bronze.

The results come a week after Canada claimed a podium finish in a women's race in Visonnaz, Switzerland, with Marielle Thompson of Whistler, British Columbia, taking first place, followed by Phelan and Cherette.

Thompson finished fifth with his win in the small final on Friday and leads the overall standings with 977 points heading into the season-ending race on Saturday.

Frenchwoman Marielle Berger ranked second with 910 points, followed by Vilan with 874 points.

In the men's competition on Friday, Howden finished behind Sweden's David Moberg and Italy's Simone Deromides. Gavin Rowell of Prince George, British Columbia, was the fifth best player, while Jared Schmidt of Ottawa was seventh.

Howden ranked third in the overall standings with 641 points before the final match on Saturday, behind Mobarg (680) and Swiss Alex Viva (678).
