Kyle Larin scored in the 61st minute and Jakob Scheffelborg added a goal in the first minute of stoppage time for Canada in the opening doubleheader of CONCACAF qualifying.
Larin's goal, a left-footed shot from just inside the penalty area from a pass from Eke Ogbu, was his 29th goal in 66 international matches.
Schaeffelburg added his second international goal with a left-footed shot after a pass from Jonathan David.
Canada will open the Copa America against defending champion Argentina on June 20 in Atlanta, play Chile five days later in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Chile on June 29 in Orlando, Florida.
Costa Rica begins its campaign by facing Brazil on June 24 in Inglewood, California, then faces Colombia four days later in Glendale, Arizona, and concludes the first round by facing Paraguay on July 2 in Austin, Texas.

Honduras took the lead in the 10th minute when Edwin Rodriguez crossed into the penalty area and Jiri Bengtsson, with his back to goal, back-heeled a pass to Michael Chirinos. He fired a shot past Keylor Navas from 22 yards for his first goal in 21 international matches.
Costa Rica tied the score 1:19 later when Manfred Ugalde's header from a Brenes corner kick was blocked by Jonathan Rogier to Gallo, who kicked the rebound.
Madrigal put Ticos ahead in the 56th minute with a shot from 16 yards. Brenes scored in the 62nd minute with a shot from 30 yards that hit defender Raul Santos.
