Index – Tech-Science – Huge improvements are coming to Facebook and Instagram

Mark Zuckerberg was satisfied with the monopoly of OpenAI and ChatGPT, so he decided to make a move that would stir up the stagnant waters in the field of AI-based developments. As is known, Meta introduced its self-developed AI assistant in September last year, but little has been heard about it since then. Until recently, it was revealed that Zuckerberg was already integrating it into all major Meta apps.

Thus, artificial intelligence will arrive in the chat interfaces of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, but in addition to all this, it will also appear in the main Facebook feed.

In addition, the assistant will also get a separate website, which is already available to residents of some countries at meta.ai – however, it is not yet possible to access it from Hungary. Zuckerberg and Meta decided to introduce the developments because they saw that this was the only way they could challenge OpenAI – which is why they developed their own open source AI model, Llama, which this time is called Llama 3. According to the company, the new model is already outperforming Compete in key metrics and generally be more efficient at tasks such as programming.

For now, it looks like Meta will only release two smaller models of Llama 3 that will be available in AI Assistant and to third-party developers – and a larger multimedia model will now follow.

This makes Llama 3 unique

Currently, Meta's AI Assistant is the only chatbot that can provide real-time search results from multiple search engines, namely Google and Bing. Which option to choose will ultimately be decided by the AI itself based on which search results it believes are most relevant. In addition, the image creation mechanisms have also been updated, for example, Llama 3 can now create animated images and GIFs, but what is even more impressive is the generation of images in real time.

This is not only amazing, but also very useful, because it gives users the opportunity to “get into” the creation process, where they can adjust the prompt on the fly based on what they see on the screen. Where exactly will Meta AI be used? As we wrote, first at the meta.ai web address, but after a subsequent update it will also be possible to access the chatbot as a traditional conversation on Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. Once you're here, you can ask Meta AI literally anything, from jotting down your essentials for a week-long vacation in Greece to writing lines of code for a widget.

Although only available in the US so far, Meta's AI is now available in English in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It is not yet known when other languages will be supported, or when the development will reach other countries.

Artificial intelligence is already thriving in Viber

As mentioned earlier, it's not just Meta platforms that have been hijacked by AI, because another popular chat app, Viber, has also received AI support. The essence of the innovation is that thanks to artificial intelligence, Viber can now summarize the content of group conversations with up to one hundred unread messages. In practice, this looks like the user – after entering a group chat with unread messages – receives a message that Viber is able to summarize what they missed briefly, in bullet points, so they don't have to reread what happened for long minutes.

It is important to note that for the function to work, it is necessary for the AI to interpret what is written in the conversation, so in order to protect the most sensitive data, you can of course disable the development. The feature is gradually rolling out to people in the US, Philippines, Ukraine, Japan, Bulgaria, and Poland, with more countries coming soon. The service will be available on iOS and Android, in more than 50 languages – although details of the release in Hungary are not known in this case either.
