There are few tasks more difficult for a self-driving car than surviving chaotic Indian traffic.
An Indian startup, Swaayatt Robots, is doing just that I pledgedTo launch his car equipped with the latest devices on the crowded streets of Bhopal. We are perhaps not revealing anything new when we say that Indian traffic appears somewhat murky and disorganized to European eyes, and compliance with the rules is less common here, just as it is well known that lanes do not play much of a role in local traffic.
As a result, it may seem practically impossible for a self-driving car to navigate Indian roads, because in many cases this type of technology does not work perfectly even in the most regulated conditions. However, this did not stop the startup called Swaayatt Robots from launching the self-driving SUV it developed on the roads.
The self-driving car rocks back and forth, almost mimicking the erratic movement of other cars around it, while moving forward with extreme force, and is not afraid to flash its hazard lights if it veers out of the path of oncoming traffic. We also show it on video, although we can't decide if it's all awe-inspiring or a little creepy.
