In addition to the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Cyprus and Malta, the national colors of Hungary will light up the Colosseum on Tuesday evening.
Rome commemorates the enlargement of the European Union in 2004 by displaying the colors of the flags of the ten member states that joined on May 1 twenty years ago in the ancient amphitheater. Members of the diplomatic missions of the ten countries will participate in the ceremony on Tuesday.
The Colosseum will also be illuminated on Europe Day on May 9; Then painted blue, the monument symbolically participates in the campaign for the European Parliament elections scheduled for June.
In the following weeks, a blue flag with twelve gold stars in a circle, which is also used by the European Union, will be displayed on the memorial with the inscription in English Use your voice.
According to the announcement by the Italian Ministry of Culture on Tuesday, three small towns will wear blue as of May 9: Rossignano Monferrato in Piedmont, Utricoli in Umbria, and Geracci in Calabria. In addition, several other monuments, institutions and monuments were also illuminated “to emphasize the importance of shared cultural values, which form the basis of European identity.”
