The Gold Cup tournament, the most important tournament for countries in North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF region), has begun. The host of the event – as always – this year is the United States. The top two teams from the four groups of four qualify for the knockout stage.
United States-Jamaica
In the match, the Jamaicans quickly advanced against the American hosts, then missed a penalty kick, which the United States punished with a goal scored by Brandon Vazquez in the 88th minute.
Trinidad is Tobago-Saint Kitts is Nevis
There was no doubt in the other group match, which saw Trinidad and Tobago score three goals in a convincing victory over Saint Kitts and Nevis, who were participating in the Gold Cup for the first time.
Haiti-Qatar
In Group Two, Qatar, newly invited to the tournament, advanced over Haiti early Monday morning Hungarian time. However, the Caribbean national team scored a goal in extra time in the first and second halves, and the Haitians scored three points in an exciting final match.
Mexico-Honduras
Mexico, the winner of the most matches (eight times), played as an opponent against Honduras. Luis Romo took the lead in the first minute, then scored again midway through the first half. Mexico also scored two goals in the second half to start the Gold Cup with a big win.
