A new law came into force in Ukraine today, transforming the army's mobilization system. The legislation allows for easier identification of all conscript personnel in the country. The legislation was approved in mid-April, just one week later Ukraine lowered the minimum age for conscripts from 27 to 25 years.
In the case of both the local and international press, inaccurate statements were often made about lowering the conscription age. By lowering the conscription age by two years, Kiev tried to address an administrative problem: many men had already fulfilled their military service obligations before they turned 27, but at the same time, due to the high age limit, they were not being taken out of military service. The category that can be conscripted for military service to the reserve category that can be conscripted, so the military administration cannot send them another summons.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also signed two additional laws on Friday. HIt allows prisoners to enter the army and increases penalties for non-conscripts.
