University of Miskolc |  A knowledge center at the European level in a unique alliance

As part of the investment of the Center for Scientific Data Analysis Methodology and Open Archival Research Data Sources, a new building was built in the University City of the Borsod-Abaj-Zemplén District Archive of the Hungarian National Archives (MNL), and at the same time the buildings of the Miskolc University Library and Archives were renovated And the entire museum.

Planning for the architectural complex began in 2017, and the foundation stone was laid on June 24, 2021. Priority government investment of approximately HUF 13.2 billion was achieved. After the technical handover ceremony, the IT infrastructure will be built, the planned professional content will be implemented, and new services will be launched.

The institutional alliance between the higher education institution and the general public means cooperation in the field of education and scientific research. With regard to the Miskolc University Library, Archives, Museum and Bursod-Abaj-Zemplén District Archives, the application of modern 21st century methods and technologies in artificial intelligence-based data analysis in the field of public collection information provision.

In the renovated building of the university library, students will have access to a 2,400 square meter reading room, which also serves as a community space. The building houses the new University History Gallery of the University Museum, the museum book collection of the Mining and Forestry Academy of Selmekbanja, the Selmek Heritage Library, a bookstore and a café await visitors in a new exhibition space.

The new building of the Borsod-Abaj-Zemplén District Archive of the Hungarian National Archives houses a research room, a restoration workshop, a file room, a modern warehouse for storing 20,000 m² of documents, a 750 m² community space, and a documents headquarters. A room suitable for holding cultural events and conferences, which the building designer envisioned in the form of a spatially rounded cube that breaks the facade of the building.

During the implementation of the Center for Scientific Data Analysis Methodology and Archival Open Research Data Source project, the use of environmentally friendly solutions, energy efficiency, emission reduction and water conservation were key aspects. During construction and maintenance, the aim is to reduce the amount of waste and recycling, thus contributing to the creation of an organizational culture that takes into account sustainable environmental aspects and an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Rector of the University of Miskolc, Prof. Dr. Zita Horvath, delivered a welcome speech during the technical handover of the investment held in a festive setting; Zoltan Nyul, Deputy State Secretary responsible for high-rise construction and investments at the Ministry of Construction and Transport; Matti Vinci, Deputy Secretary of State responsible for Public Collections and Cultural Developments at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation; Csaba Szabó, Director General of the Hungarian National Archives; László Foucault, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Miskolciensis University Foundation; and Attila Zende, General Director of Miskolc University Library, Archives and Museum.

The architectural designer of the Knowledge Center, which was built using environmentally friendly technology and serves sustainability, under the leadership of award-winning architect Ybl Péter Puskás, is Műépítéz Kft from Miskolc, and the project contractor is Épkar Zrt and Fejér Zrt.
