The controversial but undoubtedly big-money boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson is no longer scheduled to take place on July 20 – but that was hinted at when the boxing legend fell ill on a plane from Miami to Los Angeles. Mike Tyson was recently on a plane from Miami to Los Angeles when he needed medical attention as his ulcer reportedly recurred 30 minutes before the plane landed. Passengers were delayed on board for 25 minutes after the plane landed.
Although Tyson claimed he was “feeling 100 percent, even if I didn't need to to beat Jake Paul,” it turned out the medical issue was enough to postpone the bout to a later date.
I would like to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to the ulcer getting worse, my doctor advised me to reduce my training for a few weeks so I could rest and recover. Overall, my body is in better shape than it has ever been since the 1990s, and I will soon be able to return to a full exercise routine. Jake Paul, that may have bought you some time, but you still ended up getting eliminated and out of the hole forever. Is it worth it with a 30 year age difference?
The idea of the fight was heavily criticized by many, as Paul, a social media star turned boxer, is 30 years younger than 57-year-old Tyson. Tyson looked great for his age in a 2020 exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr., but he hasn't fought a professional fight since his 2005 loss to Kevin McBride.
Although the Texas Bureau of Licensing and Regulation has allowed Paul vs. The Tyson bout will be billed as an “officially sanctioned professional bout,” and the bout will be subject to special rules: among other things, there will be eight two-minute rounds, instead of the usual three-minute time frames in professional boxing.
