A retired US Navy admiral has been arrested and accused of agreeing to a training contract with an unnamed company with which he had previously concluded a similar agreement in exchange for a job offer promising a salary of half a million dollars a year. BBC writes.
Robert Burke, who could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted, pleaded not guilty at his preliminary hearing in Miami on Friday, the report said. In addition to the 62-year-old man, two company directors were also arrested.
He was the former second-highest commander of the military organization, overseeing operations in Europe, Russia and Africa before his retirement. The law makes no exceptions for admirals or executives, and those who pay bribes and accept bribes must be held accountable, the prosecutor said in an interview.
