A new study evaluated everything from internet speed to life expectancy.

Quality of life is an important metric when ranking the best cities in the world. But what exactly is quality of life, and how can it be measured at all?

Well, anything from the ease of walking to the smell of the city could affect it, but it does Oxford Economics The new Global City Index for 2024 took into account six important indicators:

Life expectancy, per capita income, income equality, entertainment and cultural venues, internet speed, and housing costs.

In the end, the city with the best “quality of life score” turned out to be Grenoble in France. The “Capital of the Alps” received a score of one hundred points out of a possible hundred and is known, among other things, as a popular tourist destination as well as a center for scientific research.

Second place – as the only non-European city – was Canberra, Australia, and Switzerland not only took third place with Bern, but also fifth place with Basel and eighth place with Zurich (which, incidentally, is the best-performing city in the world).
