While Rare is working on Sea of Thieves (the live service game seems to be quite popular on PlayStation 5 as well), there's another game the studio announced years ago that it has yet to release…
Everwild was announced at We saw the game again in a teaser video at the Xbox Games Showcase of 2020. And here the flow of information about the game stopped, that is, for nearly four years, neither Radar nor Microsoft said anything about it.
In the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast, Windows Central editor Jez Corden said that he believes Everwild is still in development, so there's no need to worry about Rare canceling the project. He doesn't know much about the game other than that it will be an online multiplayer type of game. So they can continue the Sea of Thieves formula in Everwild. Maybe at this year's Xbox Games Showcase, the studio will finally show off something of it again, because it's already time, but Corden isn't sure it'll show up at Microsoft's event, because he thinks it might be too early to reveal the game. (So they could have made the same mistake CD Projekt RED did with Cyberpunk 2077…)
Rare's action-adventure game (even if it retains the genre, because after the long silence it wouldn't be surprising that it was also adapted during the four years of silence) existed in concept form already in 2014. That's why it's so surprising, according to Corden, that it might be… It's too early to introduce the game to the public again. Wasn't a decade enough for Rare to create something good looking IP?
However, this is just a rumor, so it is not official.
