The project, which was announced four years ago and has been going through development hell ever since, may finally be able to reach the finish line this way, because almost everything has changed compared to the original concept.
Initially, two Indian Ubisoft studios (Mumbai, Pune) worked on the remake, but the initial reactions were not very positive. The French publisher's management wasn't too impressed either, so they sent the project back to Ubisoft Montréal, which then rebooted the whole thing. Recently, you could hear some things about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, but now it's official that a major studio is helping to make it happen.
Ubisoft Toronto is also working on the remake. This studio has worked on the last parts of Watch_Dogs and Far Cry, so two major Canadian teams are planning to implement the remake. Ubisoft Toronto usually deals with open world games, but we don't think Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will veer in that direction, despite the project being rebuilt from the ground up.

As a result, fans have to forget everything they heard or saw from the trailer from years ago, i.e. the remake was rewritten, and the action culture was recorded again (motion capture, mocap), so there is not much left of the original concept (maybe not Thing), and despite previously stating otherwise, Ubisoft's previous work in Mumbai and Pune will not be used in the reboot, which is said to have a “more realistic approach” compared to the announcement video. In addition to a complete graphical overhaul, the animation, combat and parkour mechanics have also been reworked, and Yuri Lowenthal, the actor who played the prince in both the original trilogy and the original, will not be reprising his role in the remake.
There is no release date set for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake yet, and we don't know when it will be released. Maybe the French publisher will talk about it in Ubisoft Forward.
