Sharks in the Seine: Paris Olympics threatened by a horde of bloodthirsty sharks in new Netflix film

What is the worst that could happen at the 2024 Paris Olympics? Suppose triathletes are eliminated by a large shark. The French have found a specific way to advertise the Summer Olympics, although it is also possible that they wanted to follow Steven Spielberg's “model” because when the Shark was made in 1975, people did not dare to venture into the sea for a long time; Now we see that the Paris water police have a windmill battle every day with kayakers and weekenders bathing in the waters of the Seine, but perhaps a few bloodthirsty sharks will be enough of a deterrent that no one will enter the river again.

There are as many shark movies as there are stars in the sky, and most of them are in the category of unacceptable garbage or at best a guilty pleasure; Whereas there are those really tense and entertaining people who take the trouble to draw inspiration from Spielberg's classics, study the tension factor and the genre formula a little, and perhaps develop and reform it according to today's era. Fortunately, the sharks in the Seine belong to the latter, but even then we can't be completely satisfied with the final result.

About two months before the triathlon competition at the Paris Olympics, Xavier Gens' work debuted on Netflix, in which a team of marine biologist are slaughtered by a mature shark marked with a lighthouse, which 3 years later for some reason wanders into the Seine and swims… All the way to Paris. Of course, he does not want to start the marine life triathlon, and he does not even want to be present at the event as a quiet observer. As a fan of the sport, the reason for his visit is much more fashionable than that; Because humanity has destroyed its natural habitat to the point where it has had to adapt its behavior to freshwater conditions and settle into the catacombs in order to continue living there – if only the perpetual activists and the hysterical mayor of the Olympics would allow it.

The biggest problem with Sharks in the Seine is that you don't know what you want to be or what you want to do with yourself. In practical terms, the story moves forward as the waters of Cigna sweep through it, which is why it sometimes feels like a socially conscious paranormal phenomenon, sometimes like an action thriller that races along at a maddening pace, and then ultimately isn't really like that. , but complete chaos and disaster, you almost drown in it, and when you finally come to your senses, you look around in confusion at what just happened.

Don't get me wrong, Sharks in the Seine is not an unwatchable piece of crap, it's a mediocre film within the genre that once or twice leaves you with a tingle in your taste buds, but overall it doesn't taste bad and slides down our throats from time to time. Technically and visually, the film is quite good, it does not offer anything more than an American production of the same class, and can only be new because we have never seen the sharks partying in Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

Sharks in the Seine is usually a one-off movie, but it's not bad. It has its drawbacks and virtues, and it is understood what you want to say and what specific social groups or individuals you want to represent. If you want to watch another shark massacre, this time in the Seine River, during the Paris Olympics, watch this movie on Netflix.
