From now on, we can use the popular chat platform and all its functions directly from our console.
The latest system software update for the PlayStation 5 rolled out recently, bringing a long-awaited feature to the console. The arrival of Discord integration was announced in May 2021 by then-Sony president Jim Ryan, which was followed by significant silence. Last March, Discord became available to all users on the PlayStation 5, but voice chat was only available via the desktop or mobile app at the time.
A software update rolled out the other day has fully integrated Discord, meaning we can now join rooms directly from our console and chat with friends via the popular chat platform.
Why it took so long to fully integrate Discord is unknown. By the way, the platform recently reported that it is returning to its roots, so the focus is once again on games and players. Discord has been trying to expand its audience over the past few years, but those efforts to expand appear to have failed.
