The asteroid may hit with a diameter of up to 300 feet of Earth in 2032. Although NASA says the chances of collision are very low, the possibility of this has increased since Space Stone's discovery weeks ago – reports NBC News.
NASA said last week that there is a chance of 2.3 percent (or 43) to hit the asteroid, which is called 2024 YR4, the land on December 22, 2032. Although there is still a little possibility, it has almost doubled compared to the assessment of the original agency by a rate 1.2 % at the end of January.
Then NASA said that “there is no other known asteroid known for more than 1 percent.”
According to the agency, the risk of influence can be excluded in the end, but it is also possible that the possibility of increasing the number of details.
NASA estimates that the asteroid is 130 to 300 feet. If you reach the ground, it is likely to reach high speeds, about 38,000 miles per hour.
The space stone is likely to cause local damage, but it will not threaten the planet or the entire humanity, just as it can happen if a much larger asteroid collides with the Earth.
The asteroid was first noticed in Chile on December 27, 2024, and since then the space stone has been examined with earthly telescopes. It is expected to continue to be visible to the ground observatory until April, and until June 2028 it will fade to the point that it will not be possible to see it.
