According to the Red Bull Formula 1 team boss, Max Verstappen received an extremely harsh penalty, and Lando Norris also suffered an elbow. This is the race.
Christian Horner disagrees with Max Verstappen's penalty and the overall assessment of the collision with Lando Norris.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has taken a fairly clear stance on the matter, saying that Red Bull's 2021 championship title and Verstappen's behaviour at the time, as well as his refereeing, led to the current incident.
“That day happened because they were not treated properly in the past when Lewis fought, and there were cases that should have been punished severely,” Stella said. It is ingrained in some riders that this type of competition is legal and acceptable.
Horner sees it differently:
“I saw that there was enough room for Lando. “By then, he had already committed a violation because he left the track four times,” said the Red Bull team boss, referring to the fact that Norris was penalized for his five-second foul in the moments of the collision.
“Lando took his elbow out, there was contact between them before that. Max had a flat tire and got a penalty, but I think it was harsh. Sometimes it's racing. We had a great win yesterday, and we also dominated today's race,” Horner added. It's Formula 1.”
“However, we had a lot of positives this weekend, our car was very strong, we got two pole positions and won the sprint race, and I think Max extended his lead in the standings.”
