Hungarian universities must be brought to the forefront of the world, the Minister of Culture and Innovation said at a panel discussion on Saturday at Rákóczi Free University in Sátoralgaujély.

Balazs Hancu stated that our language and culture make us Hungarian. In his words, culture provides the straight backbone and shapes Hungarianism into a nation regardless of borders.

“Our nation has a mission, so young Hungarians must always strive to be better than others,” Balázs Hankó stressed, adding that the ministry's mission is to provide the opportunity for this.

The minister has set a goal to bring Hungarian universities to the forefront of the world. He believes they are on the right track, as twelve Hungarian higher education institutions are already among the world's top 500 universities.

Balazs Hancu added that outside the borders, especially in Transylvania and the highlands, the number of students in vocational training and degree programmes should be increased, as this would strengthen the holding power of the Hungarian nation and economy.

He stressed that Hungarian higher education has become more attractive, which is also proven by the increasing number of applicants. “We can promote training areas that are important from the point of view of society and the economy,” he said.

The minister also said: They are proud that every second young person applies to a rural university, and the number of applicants and admissions in the field of information technology is increasing. He added that six out of ten students choose vocational training, and they want to increase it to seven out of ten in the coming period. He added that this is important, because this field is the training hall in technical higher education.
