Airlines have 150 days to replace defective parts.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered 2,600 Boeing 737 aircraft to be inspected on Monday, Reuters reported. ReutersThe agency is examining the machines because it has been suggested that the oxygen masks will not work properly in an emergency.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered an inspection of 737 MAX and NG aircraft after receiving multiple reports that the cabin oxygen generators in these aircraft are moving out of place during emergencies, thus not providing passengers with enough oxygen in the event of a depressurization emergency — even though that’s what they’re supposed to do.

According to the statement, the investigations should be completed within 120-150 days, and the deficiencies should be addressed within this time period. This should be done by the airlines that operate the affected aircraft.

Just today, Boeing admitted that it had previously misled authorities regarding the licensing of the 737 MAX, even before two of the aircraft were involved in air disasters that killed 346 people in 2018-2019. By admitting the charges, the company may have to pay up to $487 million (176.2 billion Hungarian forints), but it may avoid criminal proceedings.
