Immediately after the European Youth Swimming Championships, the fight continued with the Masters competition, i.e. swimmers over 25 years old, at the Milano Gil Muskaterovic Sports and Recreation Centre, built at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers.
Although they had previously thought that there would be little interest in the competition, due to the recent congestion of world competitions due to Covid, the composition of the participants completely contradicted that. A very strong and crowded field gathered in several age groups, and the leaders climbed the podium in several age groups and numbers with better times than in the World Championships in Doha, which was held in February this year instead of 2023. Many European and European Championship summits fell in a few days. The competition was broadcast live, and the directors and judges worked with dedication, joy and discipline throughout. The only downside was that the changing rooms and showers were too few to serve a large number of people and the capacity of the pavilion was also very limited.
Eight competitors from Szentes Delfin Health Care Sport Club took part in the European competition. Six swimmers also started in individual numbers, while two travelled to Belgrade for the relay. Everyone fought to the best of their ability, achieving personal best times or coming close to them, and the Delfin ESC competitors achieved very good positions.

Our team also benefited from the feeling of life in Belgrade. After the competitions we got to know the city. We walked a lot, ate well and had ice cream. The team liked Kalemegdán Park the most, which we returned to several times. There was a castle in this area even in Roman times, where the Romans, Huns, Avars, Byzantines, Austrians and Turks fought. It was partially or completely destroyed and then rebuilt more than forty times. Today, only a part of it can be seen, but it is still clear what a huge castle once stood here. It is a particularly important place for us Hungarians, as it was here that the Hungarian armies achieved a triumphant victory in the battle between July 4 and 22, 1456, which stopped the expansion of the Turks for almost 70 years.
We were also able to experience the nightlife up close. There were 3 nightclubs in the immediate vicinity of our accommodation, where life started around 11pm and was still in full swing at 8am. So we couldn’t get much rest at night, because just a few meters away from us, the music, the volume and everything related to it continued relentlessly.
