Passengers on the railway can experience an unusual sight: Starting in July, railway maintenance workers will be assisted by a giant robot that truly looks like it came out of a movie. The amazing robot is operated by West Japan Railway Company and was developed in collaboration with robotics company Jinki Ittai and transportation technology company Nippon Signal.

According to JR West, the new associate will initially be tasked with cutting tree branches along the tracks and painting cable supports above the tracks. The project was launched to solve a labor shortage, and they also hope its use will improve safety indicators.

The robot can also perform tasks that could put employees at risk without any problems. The robot can work at a height of up to 12 meters, can lift objects weighing 40 kilograms, and its arms can be equipped with chain saws.
