A giant portrait of Katalin Karikó and Nobel Prize-winning scientist Ferenc Krausz has been placed on the firewall of a residential building in the capital. The artwork reads: “Like Hungarians, at the forefront of science, serving humanity,” the Daily Mail reported, citing a government spokesman at the inauguration ceremony.
Eszter Vitályos noted that this idea completely characterizes the professional life and work of both scientists. He stated that the fate of the two Hungarian Nobel laureates is that they came from a small settlement, studied in Hungary, think in Hungarian and are proud of their Hungarianism.
The spokesman said that Hungary is proud of the outstanding achievements of Hungarians, and stated that “the Hungarian people are talented and with hard work they are at the forefront of the world in the field of science as well.” He pointed out that it is no coincidence that the number of Hungarian Nobel Prize winners and other Hungarians with great scientific achievements is high and they live and create everywhere in the world.
He pointed out that such a wall also contributes to expressing this recognition, enhancing their reputation and making their person known to ordinary people, but also to foreigners visiting Hungary.
Eszter Vitályos said about the artwork that there was previously a painting in the same place evoking 1956, which was already very worn out, “the passage of time was visible on it.” The work has just been completed – the seventh. on the surface of the wall next to the house No. 40 Wesselényi utca in the area – it has already been made with a special paint, it will not wear off so quickly.
The Nobel laureates are said to have seen the designs and “given their blessing” to the project. The construction of the Nobel Laureates Wall was supported by the Hungarian government. The contractor is Színes Város Group, and the designer is Péter Csuth.
