Research – Counting daily calories is more important for weight loss than timing meals – Electronic Development

When it comes to losing weight, the number of calories consumed during the day is crucial, according to the authors of a recent scientific study. According to nutritionist Dora Varga, counting calories is a good way to lose weight and helps us better understand our nutrition, but the composition and quality of the diet are just as important as physical activity. Smartwatches can effectively contribute to a more health-conscious lifestyle: a survey conducted by Huawei revealed that smartwatch owners are 71 percent more likely to know their correct daily calorie intake and generally feel fitter and healthier.

A recent scientific study recently indicated that the number of calories consumed during the day is the decisive factor in weight loss, not when those calories are consumed – and therefore, according to the current scientific situation, eating based on counting calories appears to win over intermittent meals.

According to nutritionist Dora Varga, who specializes in nutrition, counting calories is basically a good way to lose weight: “Counting calories can help you control your diet and positively influence food decisions, but in the long run, it should not dominate our daily lives.” The expert said that the goal is to help lose weight when used temporarily. Dora Varga drew attention to the fact that monitoring calories may be important in improving body weight, but it is also influenced by many other factors. For example, the state of the microbiome, metabolic diseases, psychological state, time of eating, sleep habits, or taking medications. “It is not only the amount of calories that matters, but also the composition and quality of the diet. It is fundamentally positive if we are more aware of our eating, but we should not only look at the numbers. In addition, eating too few calories can stop weight loss or even cause weight gain. As a general principle, it can be said that if we reduce our daily energy intake by 500 calories compared to before, this usually leads to gradual and sustainable weight loss.

According to the expert, physical activity plays a very important role, because if we move more, we need more energy: “Monitoring the number of daily steps can be a good way, it is certainly recommended to achieve at least ten thousand steps per day.” “A day on average,” said the expert. According to the nutritionist, the general recommendation for everyone is to practice at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity cardio and 2 x 30 minutes of muscle strengthening exercises per week, which can also be well monitored using smart devices.

Huawei’s latest smartwatch models, the WATCH GT 4 and WATCH FIT 3, are good examples of how versatile smart devices can support a more health-conscious lifestyle. The manufacturer’s latest smartwatches measure calories burned by monitoring exercise, and now have a calorie management app to track calories and weight loss goals in real time. The weight loss speed can be customized in the app (normal, fast, fastest), and it recommends an activity and training level for the specific user, based on knowing the target weight. One of the biggest advantages of the app is that when calculating all calories burned, it also takes into account calories burned during rest and activity (exercise, daily movement).

According to Huawei’s survey last year, a relative majority of respondents are concerned about obesity (46%), with most wanting to reduce stress, maintain a healthy weight (40%) and eat healthier (35%) in the near future. Huawei’s survey also revealed that smartwatch users are more health conscious. Among other things, they are 71% more likely to know their correct daily calorie intake, which is key to maintaining a healthy weight. They also generally feel fitter (56% vs. 45%), healthier (57% vs. 45%) and more satisfied with their health (60% vs. 50%).
