At first it may seem like The Sims 5 has been cancelled — not least because of developer layoffs and a confusing LinkedIn post — but Project Rene, which is often associated with The Sims 5, is still in development.
Based on a cropped screenshot, the artist's LinkedIn page was posted by On Twitter/XWho claims to have worked on The Sims 5. At the top of the long list is: Sims 5 Unreal Engine 5 for PS5 (Canceled)Of course, this could mean a number of things: perhaps the PS5 port of The Sims 5 was cancelled, or perhaps Unreal Engine 5 was used and the developers reverted back to The Sims' in-house engine.
With so much DLC available for the current game in the series, some have speculated that The Sims 5 was canceled so that EA could continue releasing content packs for The Sims 4. In fact, Bademoglu, who shared the tweet, claims that several developers reported that they had to switch from Project Rene to The Sims 4 back in April.
But regardless of what happens, it appears that the Rene project is still in active development, as there are still job postings on EA's careers page. Clearly, at least one Sims project is still in the works – unless someone at EA forgot to update the job postings.
