On November 30, Vodafone Hungary will end its Mini Bázis service that replaces Space Capacity, the company said in a statement.
The service, which has been around since 2011, has provided assistance to those who used services in areas with low and shadowed coverage or in areas where there was no network coverage due to limitations of radio technology.
The use of Mini Base femtocells is limited by geographic location: the mini base station must first be connected to an electrical grid and then to a router that provides Internet access, creating a private network that can be used for voice and data calls.
However, according to the service provider, the number of customers using Mini Bases has declined significantly in recent years.
The reason for this can be found on the one hand in the development of the network, on the other hand, the technology is becoming outdated, the small base stations that provide the service cannot be served, and more modern and cost-effective solutions are becoming available, such as Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi).
VoWiFi allows you to send and receive text messages, as well as make voice calls and emergency calls via Wi-Fi, even in places where mobile network coverage is shaded or not available at all. Compared to Mini Bázis, the technology offers a cheaper and higher quality service, since you do not need a separate device to access the service, it is enough to use a compatible smartphone to connect to the Wi-Fi network that provides access to the public Internet. Another advantage is that in addition to the call, the data connection is provided in parallel, so the data distribution also works during the call.
VoWiFi can be used locally and abroad, there are no separate fees for the service, traffic fees and one-time fees are the same as the rates and tariffs of the tariff package, Vodafone does not charge roaming fees for use abroad.
Regarding the Mini Base withdrawal, there is no special procedure for affected customers. Regarding the withdrawal, the service provider sends information to all affected customers.
We don't even know about local mobile services.
It took just a quarter of a year for mobile services to undergo a radical transformation.
