According to Rafael Colantonio, the structure of his new project falls somewhere between Prey and Fallout: New Vegas.
As the founder of Arkane Studios, Rafael Colantonio has contributed to many of the studio’s games, but if we had to mention something that is most closely associated with his name, it would be the Dishonored series, which he co-created with Harvey Smith. Colantonio then left the team in 2017 with one of the producers, Julian Roby, to form their own company, WolfEye Studios, in 2019, whose first and unique game, Weird West, was released in 2022.
Colantonio announced that day that Weird West had been successful enough to embark on a larger project, which he would unveil soon, promising that it would be a title aimed at fans of Dishonored and Prey. The presentation has now taken place, though very little information has been revealed about the game so far – we don’t even know what it’s called.
However, it is certain that WolfEye Studios' second development will be an internal RPG, falling on the spectrum between Prey and Fallout: New Vegas. While Prey mainly operates in open areas but not very large and some places are closed until you have the necessary equipment to enter them, Fallout: New Vegas is a huge and sprawling world. Among them is the yet-to-be-named next-gen game: according to Colantonio, Prey and Dishonored will be the reference in terms of track design and world map, but this will be presented to us in a more open structure than the aforementioned titles.
According to the developer's promise, the project will have all the elements we expect from an RPG, that is, we will get statistics, dialogues and XP-based leveling, while the story is a “what if?” type story, according to which a big and crazy technological event in America in the early 20th century led to an alternative history – and then we will join the game described as old science fiction 30 years later. According to Colantonio, they can't wait to return to the internal presentation, because it is their favorite – WolfEye brings together quite a few former Arkane developers, who are experimenting with the new game based on their previous experience. Of course, they borrowed a bit from Weird West, for example some procedural solutions, but the missions will not be like that.
However, the project still has a long way to go: WolfEye Studios has just completed the preparatory work, and the founders are currently presenting the concept to potential publishers behind closed doors. However, they promise an exclusive and limited number of alpha tests for 2025, and their goal is to try to involve the player community early in the game’s development, so that they have enough time to take feedback into account.
