Red Bull: We don't come to Canada as favourites

Red Bull's advisor doesn't consider his team the favourites in Montreal. Helmut Marko admits they have the upper hand, but that doesn't mean they don't want to win.

Red Bull have managed to win “only” one of the last three races, and that too by a slim margin. This is a new normal for a team that has broken records for dominance in 2023. The Monaco track certainly didn’t suit their car, and while Canada will provide an opportunity to respond, advisor Helmut Marko is not sure they can do it.

“We have seen our dominance in the first three races. Opponents have caught up with the third year of the current rules system, some have copied it, others have improved. There is not much room left for innovation. It is simply a natural process, and there is nothing shameful about it.” – Marco A said Kronen ZeitungAbout Red Bull's changing situation.

The Austrian feels the circuit named after Gilles Villeneuve will also pose difficulties for his team this weekend.

“Ferrari is better, also in top speed. It's a fact that we are not the favourites to travel to Canada,” he added.

He added that they will not go to the starting grid empty-handed. “We are focusing all our efforts. Even if we are no longer in control, we still want to win. But we must definitely give our maximum and think about the championship.” He said.

According to Canadian track driver Max Verstappen, this could also cause problems for the RB20. “We'll see how we do there. The asphalt is new, so it could cause some surprises. But it might not be our strongest weekend. Anyway, maybe a little bit better than Monaco.”

“We are weaker on any track that is uneven and has a lot of wheel arches, and we drive a lot on the wheel arches. So it will be a bit more complicated on the street circuits. But hopefully we will have a better understanding of what is happening.”

– The defending champion looks forward.

Even if they don't have the best course in Canada, the conditions could help, Marco noted. Based on the forecast, there's a good chance of rain throughout the three-day weekend. “When it rains, the ultimate factor appears again!” The counselor said confidently.
