Introduction in several steps
According to the information, the commitment to activate ETA will come into effect in several stages for citizens of the countries concerned.
From 15 November 2023, Qatari nationals will need an expected travel permit to travel to the UK, and will be able to apply for permits from 25 October.
As of February 22, 2024, citizens of the following countries will be required to submit an ETA:
- Bahrain
- Jordan
- Kuwait
- Oman
- Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
According to the briefing, additional countries will be included in the scope of the ETA agreement at a later date, and according to the most likely scenario, the commitment will be extended to EU countries – including Hungary – starting in the latter part of next year. The exact date is not yet known.
You will not need an ETA if you:
- Hold a British or Irish passport;
- have a residence permit or have been granted permission to remain in the UK for a longer period for the purpose of working or studying;
- They need a visa to enter;
- They are legally resident in Ireland and do not need a visa to enter the UK if they come from one of the following four regions or countries: Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man.
