Well, as the post embedded above correctly points out, the answer is not twenty, because if there are 20 seats on bus B, and another 20 seats on bus A, i.e. 40, then there will be a total of 60 seats on both, not just 40 as listed in the assignment.
The easiest way to calculate the correct quantity is to first subtract the difference between the two capacities, which is 20, from the total number of seats, which is 40. This gives us 20: this would be the total number of seats if both buses had the same number of seats. Simply divide this by two, and you get the number of seats on bus B with the fewer seats: 20:2=10.
So the correct answer is ten. There are 30 seats on bus A, and 10 seats on bus B, so both conditions of the assignment are satisfied, that is, there are actually 20 more seats than Bn, and the sum of the two seats is actually 40 (30+10).
