According to the latest flash report of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), the performance of the economy in the first half of 2024 exceeded the level of the same period of the previous year by 1.3 percent based on preliminary data, while based on seasonally adjusted and calendar-adjusted data, it exceeded the level of the same period of the previous year by 1.5 percent. At the same time, compared to the previous quarter, according to seasonally adjusted and calendar-adjusted balanced data, the performance of the economy showed a decrease of 0.2 percent. The low base played an important role in the growth of the six-month change in the size of GDP, but this year's performance has not yet reached the level of the same period in 2022.
According to Opten data, the number of social enterprises operating continued to decline by more than 700 companies in July, so compared to December last year, there are now nearly 8,000 fewer enterprises contributing to the performance of the economy.
“This process has been ongoing since October 2022, and July is already the second month in which the number of social enterprises has fallen below 510,000 this year. The rate of terminations is not a seasonal exception, it is at a level lower than last year and is reminiscent of the period before the pandemic. However, the desire to start is clearly low, which in my opinion reflects the state of the economic environment,” said Xaba Alföldy, Opten information expert.
In the past two years, July has not been a strong period for business establishment, with the number of new establishments remaining below the monthly average. Although the number of establishments in July this year increased by more than 100 compared to the previous month, it decreased by more than 60 compared to the same period last year. At present, there are no signs of a major change in the desire to establish a business.
