This fourth place will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Walter Attila finished fourth in the cyclists' field race with a thrilling sprint and a huge jump at the end of the 273km race. The happiest fourth-place finisher has hardly made a statement lately.

“I could cry. This is a huge victory for me, I didn’t think I would be in the top 10.” He said Valter, who had already had good results for the m4 Sport. They had to go without a radio, so he didn't know how many places he was in, but he felt he was in front.

According to him, it was very important that he was already in Paris for a week – and could also start the time trial – and covered the entire route. He also enjoyed the Olympic Village, where he could finally be among the Hungarians, and that helped him too. (As one of the few professional cyclists in Hungary, he doesn’t have many opportunities to do that during the season.)

He had felt good all day, “the legs were good,” they had worked on good tactics. Something told him there was no need for an early attack, and instead he tried to deal with the best. He made a mistake—he didn’t say what—but he corrected it. At the end he shook his hair, “because it doesn’t matter if I finish tenth or fourth.”

He felt good this year, but couldn't show it during the season, “somehow it didn't work out.” Now yes. “This fourth place will accompany me for the rest of my life,” he said happily.
