Following the tragedy of the Menendez brothers, Netflix's hugely successful anthology series, The Monster, tells the story of a ruthless serial killer once again after Jeffrey Dahmer. This time, Charlie Hunnam will play Ed Gein, who went on a rampage with the Hard Bikers.
Monster and Dagger creator Ryan Murphy spoke about the future of the series at a promotional event for the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez in Los Angeles, according to The Guardian. diverseThis revealed that the new season's focus would once again be on a serial killer, none other than Ed Gein, who partly inspired the leather mask worn by the killer in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror films. The lead role was given to none other than Charlie Hunnam, of Hard Bikers fame, Jackson Teller.
Last year, the series Monster, in which Evan Peters played serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, was a huge success.
Despite the huge interest, many have criticized the series and its creators, saying it has created a cult around the killer, without regard for the memory of the victim or the feelings of his family. But this has not stopped Netflix from committing more murders.
The Menendez brothers’ story was very different from Dahmer’s, but in Season 3 it seems the creators will return to the “classic” serial killer line. Like Dahmer, Gein was from Wisconsin and became notorious in the 1950s when local authorities discovered his heinous deeds. In addition to killing several people, authorities also revealed that he had been digging up graves in a cemetery near his home and using the human remains to make various household items.
His infamous crimes also influenced popular culture, inspiring characters such as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's legendary 1950 film Psycho, Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, and the events revealed in the 1974 horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and its characters may be loosely inspired by Jane's crimes, but most of the plot is fictional.
The Beast: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story premiered on Netflix on September 19. At this time, no further details about season 3, including a release date, are known.
