Carsten Intra, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, spoke about this small part with great enthusiasm at the presentation as if it were the biggest innovation in the car. USB-A and USB-C connectors are part of the standard equipment, and a 230-volt socket (which can deliver 2.3 kW) can be ordered as an option. Standard equipment also includes LED headlights and taillights, an infotainment system (DAB+, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, with online services), keyless start, a rain sensor, automatic lane keeping, automatic emergency braking and a road monitoring system.
Unfortunately, climate control is also on the menu, but the ventilation of the rear row (in the Combi and Caravelle) is not here, but above the driver's head, on the roof. Finally, the handbrake has become electric, and its button has been placed on the dashboard, freeing up space in the footwell, allowing (depending on the design and division) access to the rear from the front. There is no longer a dual-clutch DSG gearbox, and the traditional eight-speed automatic selector lever is a paddle shifter mounted on the steering column, but the manual gear lever is still located on the center console, and it is high enough to reach it.
