MVM is building a huge battery plant

MVM Balance Zrt has built a massive energy storage facility in Léter, the area of the Léter gas turbine power plant. The new block is connected to the 132 kV busbar of the Maver substation via an 11 kV switchgear, a 11/132 kV transformer and a 132 kV cable.

“The energy storage at the gas turbine power plant owned by MVM Zrt. is now considered one of the largest in Hungary, and the investment strengthens the security of electricity supply in the region,” Mark Arato told InfoRádio. The Veszprém District will be one of the largest energy storage facilities in our country and will help balance the system due to the widespread supply of renewable energy, explained Siemens Zrt Communications Manager.

With an investment of more than ten million euros, a lithium-ion battery energy storage unit with a capacity of five megawatts and a storage capacity of approximately ten thousand kilowatt-hours will be built, which will be sufficient to cover the daily electricity needs for more than that. More than 1,400 families. The battery-powered unit is connected to the power grid via the Mavir liter terminal.

“The essence of this energy storage is that it is part of a modern, highly efficient and large-scale control domain, called a combined cycle gas turbine block system, which will be able to ensure the stability of the domestic electricity system sustainably,” he said. Mark Arato, noted that Siemens Zrt, for this purpose, supplies the so-called four-zone air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear that supports reliable operation.
