Epic complains that Samsung's new Auto Blocker feature doesn't allow apps to be loaded by default, which it believes limits competition.
Epic Games, which previously sued Google over its Play Store monopoly, is filing another lawsuit against both tech giants. The Auto Blocker is said to be a “coordinated effort to restrict competition,” undermining a previous court ruling that accused Google of illegal monopoly.
What is a car blocker?
Auto Blocker is a feature that blocks downloaded apps by default, but users can turn it off. However, the problem with Epic is that it is automated, which could hinder competitors like Epic, especially since Epic recently launched its own mobile game store that requires sideloading.
Arguments of the epic
Epic claims that Auto Blocker not only protects users, but is also anti-competitive by making it more difficult for competing app stores, like the Epic Store, to spread. While this feature can really help you avoid malicious apps, according to Epic, having Auto Blocker turned on by default is very restrictive.
Epic Games' goal is to ask the court to remove the default status of Auto Blocker and let users decide for themselves whether they want to use this security feature.
