As a result of the missile attack launched from Iran towards Israel, many flights were forced to land at an alternative airport on Tuesday. Israeli airports temporarily suspended their operations, while the airspace of Iraq and Jordan was temporarily closed. Restrictions have also been imposed on certain areas in Iran.
Although these airspace closures have since been lifted, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has declared the airspace of Iran, Iraq, Israel and Lebanon as conflict zones and does not recommend their use.
In response to a 24.hu inquiry, Wizz Air confirmed that, in accordance with the recommendations of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), it is avoiding the airspace of the affected countries.
This procedure applies to the Budapest-Dubai and Budapest-Abu Dhabi lines, meaning seven flights per week. These flights now operate through the airspace of Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
However, due to the length of the route, flights to Budapest are forced to technically stop in Larnaca, Cyprus.
According to Wizz Air, the technical stop means the flight time is about two hours longer, but according to the airline, there will be no flight cancellations due to it.
